he main theme of this painting is the life style of Myanmar’s markets in the urbanization era probably around 1990s. It reflects the congestion in Myanmar Cities along with the urban development. Till now, some places in Myanmar have such kind of markets where all the people with different demographics background go to buy for their daily foods. From my perspective, the hidden subject that the artist wants to point out is the needs in infrastructure development to a safety standard as the congested living behavior is starting to increase. It is obvious by looking at the poorly equipped power lines above the shoppers’ heads. Hence, this painting is the perfect artwork which also includes the law of life and nature, “The combination of good and bad” and the artist create the competition between the tones of light and shadow to make it obvious. As Ernst Fischer (1900-1975), German composer and keyboard player once stated that “In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay. And unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must show the world as changeable. And help to change it”. In contrast, this artwork by U Hla Phone Aung represents the truth of Myanmar people’s daily life in a specific era. The worth and value of the painting of this kinds are usually increased in the future as a symbol of the life style of people at the specific era.
